A Good Heart These Days Is Hard to Find

There’s a song with this very title by Feargal Sharkey, released in 1985.And, strangely enough, the answer to why good hearts are so hard to find almost hides in the singer’s own name: fear – shark – key.
But first, let’s remember—this song was written 40 years ago. This means soul-level connection wasn’t just a modern struggle; it’s always been a challenge.
I believe there are just as many good hearts as there are not-so-good ones. The universe always balances itself. The problem? Good hearts are often locked behind high walls. And the key to those walls… is fear—fear of the sharks.
These walls, meant to protect, also block the view of other good hearts who are looking for them. Those few brave souls who dare to swim in open waters often only see sharks circling… no kindred spirits in sight.
Good hearts are rarely loud; they work quietly, which makes them even harder to spot. Meanwhile, the noise of the sharks—predators in human form—drowns out their light. Sometimes, sharks hide in silence too, deceiving even the most courageous hearts. And when those hearts are wounded, they retreat behind walls again to heal.
But here’s the beauty: this retreat strengthens them. They emerge wiser, more resilient, and better equipped to navigate shark-infested waters—waiting for other guarded hearts to lower their defenses and join them.

The truth is that good hearts must find the courage to drop their walls. Only then will they see that there are other good hearts waiting… longing to connect.
